BODYCAM: TRAGIC MURDER-SUICIDE IN STOW, OHIO — Mom of 5 Latoia R. Philpott, 41, shot to death by Summit County sheriff’s deputy Benjamin Asiedu, 43, of Akron

On January 27, 2025, I was driving in Stow, Ohio, and saw emergency vehicles racing nearby me. A few hours later, I drove the same Graham Road in the opposite direction, and a Crime Scene Unit truck was to my right. I knew whatever happened was grave.

It turns out that two fatal shootings happened that Monday on Meadowlark Trail, which were investigated as a murder-suicide by Stow police and state Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents.

The shooter, Benjamin Asiedu, 43, of Akron, was a Summit County sheriff’s deputy. “Benji” shot and killed Latoia R. Philpott, 41, of Stow. Latoia had only dated him a little more than one year.

Her children were devastated upon learning the news.

The first body-worn camera video takes place on July 4, 2024, about 7 months before the tragedy, at the scene of the eventual crime, during a 4th of July celebration. Benjamin appears with Latoia in this video briefly. “Benji” tells the officer that he is with…
